Your Gateway to the Industrial IoT
Boeing's award-winning Enterprise Sensor Integration (ESI) technology is transforming manufacturing and supply chain operations, solving critical business problems for our customers and improving operational efficiency through automation, connectivity and data management. Harnessing the power of Big Data and analytics, ESI serves as the gateway to the Industrial Internet of Things, or IIoT, enabling smart factory transformation and optimizing end-to-end supply chain operations.
ESI is a "sensor-agnostic" Auto-ID solution that solves IIoT interoperability challenges. The technology intelligently integrates a myriad of sensor technologies that track, monitor and control assets and workflow processes – creating an integrated IIoT ecosystem for tool & asset management, supply chain management and much more across your enterprise.
ESI ensures end-to-end visibility for assets and processes, generating major savings due to improved inventory control, reduced asset loss and accelerated production rates. By transforming real-time data into actionable information, ESI provides unprecedented levels of efficiency and productivity.
TAG, TRACK & TRACE IT
As a sensor-agnostic platform, ESI integrates disparate sensors regardless of sensor or hardware type, including Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags, GPS, Mesh networks, BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) and Wi-Fi technology to track and manage assets.
ESI also integrates with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and Material Requirements Planning (MRP) system to automate workflow processes.
For safety and quality assurance, ESI provides real-time alerts, mapping applications, and integration with temperature sensors, thermostats, pressure sensors and humidity sensors that track the quality and health of composite materials and chemicals used in production.
The technology operates in the cloud or on dedicated servers, from single factories to global operations.
- Standardization across the enterprise
- Automated processes that reduce labor and manual inputs
- Improved inventory control, and reduced asset misplacement and loss
- Improved productivity with reduction of manual inputs and decreased assembly time
- Increased asset visibility with mapping applications
- Enhanced situational awareness with real-time alerts
- Real-time alerts that improve safety and ensure compliance
ESI is based on the Automated Integrated Technology - Information Management System (AIT-IMS) that Tapestry Solutions implemented across 300+ Boeing facilities, including the massive Everett Plant. The RFID-driven ESI technology processes between 7- to-10 billion tag reads weekly – saving Boeing an estimated $80 million per year due to decreased assembly time, automated asset receipt/payment, enhanced inventory management and improved quality and safety.
