Doug Nelson – Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Senior Director of Midwest Operations
Dr. Nelson has over 30 years of experience designing and developing complex software systems and solutions using a variety of methodologies, with current focus on SOA-based net-centric architectures, optimization, and simulation. He has an extensive background in the design and development of large-scale, complex database systems. Doug co-founded FSG in 1992 and has served as its CEO and Principal Architect since its inception, overseeing all FSG operations including programs at USTRANSCOM, AMC, JFCOM, DLA, and prior engagements at USSPACECOM. In his consulting role for FSG, he has served as Enterprise Architect for several Fortune 100 commercial companies and Research Universities focused on predictive analytics, statistical modeling, and advanced visualization of multi-terabyte data sets. He recently served as architect for several UK National Health Service IT initiatives. His experience with command and control systems dates back to the initial operations of AMC’s GDSS in 1988 as a system engineer and program manager at Digital Equipment Corporation. At DEC, he served as lead architect for multi-level security solutions at DEC working closely with NSA and NCSA, and was a corporate trainer and internal consultant for several programming languages and object-oriented analysis/design. Prior to joining DEC, Dr. Nelson was an Associate Professor conducting computerized biomedical research and providing graduate medical training at Northwestern University. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois and holds multiple technical degrees including a PhD in Physiology/Biophysics. He is the author of over 50 scientific articles in the fields of computer science and biophysics.
